Introduction

What TeselaDB is, which part of MongoDB it covers and how this documentation is organised.

TeselaDB is a distributed document database. It stores BSON documents, speaks the MongoDB 9.0 protocol and splits every collection into ranges that are replicated across the nodes of the cluster. Your applications connect with the official MongoDB drivers and with mongosh, without changing any code except the connection string.

What you get when you start it

  • A single binary, teseladb, that acts as node, router and administration tool.
  • Every node is the same: there are no config servers or helper processes.
  • TLS and users from the first start. The first node creates the cluster certificate authority and the root user.
  • Every collection is split into key ranges. A range splits when it holds more than 64 MiB of live data or receives too many operations, and its replicas move between nodes to spread the load.

Which part of MongoDB it covers

TeselaDB implements the MongoDB 9.0 protocol: CRUD, aggregations, indexes, transactions, change streams, text and vector search, users and roles. The full list of commands, operators and stages, with their status, is in Compatibility, and the differences in behaviour are in Differences with MongoDB.
